Air pockets and Planting Techniques

Other types of site preparation machines can cause air pockets.  Air pockets are caused by rippers or discs forcing or slicing through the ground and folding over large pieces of earth onto undisturbed matter allowing spaces in the structure which do not collapse or settle immediately.  Settling (getting the excess air out) can take substantial time.

The VH Mulcher was designed to have sufficient mechanical action to break up the earth in enough small pieces to allow resettling in a much shorter time period.  Mixing in organic matter reduces the density of the soil.  This is a permanent change as the structure should never again be as dense.
