Conclusion

A new approach to land preparation.

Clear your mind and explore this thought with me.   Rather than planting behind a device such as a ripper (which was developed for road building, not reforestation), let's build the ultimate tree planting spot, without regard to cost or present machines available.

We will decide what is actually best for several different sites, go out, and by hand, create these different planting spots.  When we are done, and in agreement, we will measure and specify exactly why we need these spots to be the way we have created them.  Now that we know exactly what it is we want, we will go looking for the machine that provides what  we measured and established as basic criteria.  In this basic criteria there will be numerous factor, all of them important.  Each factor is worth a certain cost per spot.  Now assign costs and expectations to determine a cost benefit analysis.

This is a great exercise amongst several people to explain the many misconceptions and differences between sites.  The VH Mulcher was created in this manner and has evolved since 1991 by the continuing use of this exercise.
