12 - Little Slash and Low Stumps - Click on image to enlarge
South Central B.C., Dry Douglas Fir and Pine sites. Very little
slash and low stumps. VH Mulcher mixed depressions were made and the seedling planted in
the lowest point to allow for the gathering of extra moisture during periods of drought.
Suggested cost $0.20 per spot when soil is soft in Spring conditions $0.35 per spot in
late summer or when the ground dry out hard. Note : a "hydraulic thumb" attached
to the excavator is not needed on sites like this and can be removed when working steep
slopes to reduce weight while "swinging out" from the machine. Also see photo 16 where a 70% slope is being prepared without a thumb
attached. On steeper slopes, a push with the VH Mulcher sends debris downhill aided by
gravity, out of the path of the machine trucks.
